Upcoming Show: Dancing at Lughnasa

This extraordinary play is the story of five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. We meet them at the time of the festival of Lughnasa, which celebrates the pagan god of the harvest with drunken revelry and dancing. Their spare existence is interrupted by brief, colorful bursts of music from the radio, their only link to the romance and hope of the world at large. The action of the play is told through the memory of the illegitimate son of one of the sisters as he remembers the five women who raised him: his mother and four maiden aunts. He is only seven in 1936, the year his elderly uncle, a priest, returns after serving for twenty-five years as a missionary in a Ugandan leper colony. For the young boy, two other disturbances occur that summer. The sisters acquire their first radio, whose music transforms them from correct Catholic women to shrieking, stomping banshees in their own kitchen. And he meets his father for the first time, a charming Welsh drifter who strolls up the lane and sweeps his mother away in an elegant dance across the fields. From these small events spring the cracks that destroy the foundation of the family forever. Widely regarded as Brian Friel's masterpiece, this haunting play is Friel's tribute to the spirit and valor of the past.

POSTPONED: Deck the Halls with The Divas

This Christmas performance, Deck the Halls with the Divas, has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will be contacting those that have already purchased tickets to this event concerning refund or transferring these tickets to the new dates once they are announced. Below is a letter from Dedra of the Divas to share with everyone who has continued to support them over the years.

----

Hello everyone!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for the continued support of Angelo Civic Theatre and our so many shows throughout the years!  Regretfully, Mary and I are having family health issues that require our immediate full attention, and have become top priority for us. Consequently, we are having to postpone the December Divas show to a later date.  It is our hope that this change is accepted with love, understanding, and support. We are currently working on a new date, which will likely be in the spring. If you have already purchased tickets, you will have the option to transfer your ticket to the new date, or to receive a full refund.  If you were planning to purchase a ticket, please do and we will see you in the spring!! This is a first for us, was a difficult decision to make, and we deeply apologize for the inconvenience. We wish you all the happiest Christmas season! Thank you again for your understanding, and we will see you soon!

Peace and love,

Dedra Knox
